Like the fact that rich people have gotten to the point where they think they can just be like “oh yeah I’m literally trying to kill you” without fear of repercussions is beyond infuriating. They need to know what it feels like to be beaten to death by hammers.

And of all things this post made me realize that Carrot from Discworld is Aragorn.

I wonder if it’s because dwarvishness is so distinct from elvishness as an identity that it overrides the rest of the story beats? Or if it’s because the Watch series so politely and immediately set Carrot’s one-true-kingness aside as unnecessary and then moved on from it so far? Though even that has an echo from Tolkien, in that Aragorn was never the actual hero of the story. Discworld just took it that little bit farther and had Ankh Morpork basically swallow Carrot’s story whole. With his willing cooperation.
FYI if your employer does this, if they have done it for a long time especially, you and your coworkers could be owed huge amounts of unpaid wages and it would be an easy suit if there is a paper trail like this and your employer is placing strict requirements on your behavior while not at work. Employment lawyers generally work on contingency. Just food for thought.
